Teacher Only Day / Senior Assessment Week

This Friday, 31 May, is a professional development day for the staff of Stratford High School. This day is allocated by the Ministry of Education for staff to work on NCEA alignment. School will be closed for classes.

A reminder that Monday is Queen’s Birthday holiday and the school will be closed. School resumes on Tuesday 4th June and it will be Day 6 on the school timetable.

Senior Assessment Week

Next week, Tuesday 4th June to Friday 7th June is our first senior assessment week. Exams are of one hour duration. Some subjects will have two exams, while others will have one exam. Some subjects will have no exam.
There is NO study leave for any student – normal classes will continue to run for all senior classes. All senior students will be issued with a copy of the exam timetable and exam conditions at the Deans Assembly on Thursday.

School Closure


Dear parents / caregivers
The school will be closed for all students tomorrow Wednesday 15th May, due to continuing water problems.
School will resume on Thursday 16th May for all students with timetable day 1.
The school cross country will be held on Friday 17th May, weather permitting.
If there are any problems please ring the school tomorrow afternoon to listen to the school message or look at the school website / Blog.

Craig Scholarship Award


The Craig Scholarship is awarded following a bequest by the late Mr Laurence Roy Craig. The scholarship is available to a former student of Stratford High School to pay fees or expenses while undertaking a tertiary agricultural or horticultural course.

For the year 2013 the value of the scholarship has been determined by the Board of Trustees at $800. The value of the Craig Scholarship in 2012 was $900.

Written applications must be in the hands of the BoT Secretary by close of business on Friday 10th May, 2013.

Please remember that Y11, 12, and 13 students should be making appointments for interview evening on Thursday 11th April.
Junior students should receive reports this week and interview evening is on Thursday 18th April.

Sheliah Winn Shakespeare Festival in the school assembly hall on Wednesday 17th April. Check the daily notices for starting times. It would be great to see support from the community for this event.
School finishes on Friday 19th April at 3.15 pm.

2013 Kidz Art Show

This is on at the Percy Thompson Gallery in Stratford. SHS Year 10 art work is currently being exhibited along with art work from other regional schools at the gallery. Also on show are the McDonald Real Estate Canvas Challenge pieces, which was won by ex-student William Bennett.

World Vision

The student leaders for the 2013 World Vision 40 Hour Famine took part in training earlier this week. The famine is on from 7 to 9 June. Stratford High School will be running activities for the famine and encourage students to register their participation in the famine team. Watch daily notices for more information.

New Parents' Evening


Wednesday 20th February 2013

Commencing 7.00 pm in the SHS Assembly Hall.

All parents of Year 9 students are invited to attend this information evening. Staff will explain the junior graduation and junior programmes. Parents will be able to mingle with staff.
Parents of other new students are welcome to attend.

Swimming sports

The annual SHS interhouse swimming sports will be held on Thursday 21st February 2013. The sports will commence at 9am at the school pool. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend. The whole school will attend from 11.30 am to 3 pm.
Sunhats and sunblock should be brought by all students. Students are to wear uniform to school but house colours can be worn by students during the sports.
