High School Corner

Congratulations

·     Blake Cheer was awarded the Healey Family Trophy for Taranaki Country Basketball U17 BOYS – Most Valued Player at the Taranaki Country Basketball prizegiving on Saturday 27th October.
·     Ryan Cooper & Matthew Anderson both represented Taranaki at the NZ Short Course Swimming Championship in Wellington recently. Ryan won bronze in the 200 backstroke.
Ryan has also been awarded a Central North Island Scholarship at the recent CNI Champs held in Rotorua over Labour Weekend.

BoT Scholarship Winners

At the recent Board of Trustees meeting the winners of the BoT Scholarship examinations and RR Tyrer Scholarships were announced. Due to the low numbers sitting the exams only three BoT scholarships were awarded to: Riley Taylor (Eltham), Caleb Gibbons (Stratford) and Dale Stanners (Ngaere).
More funds were available for the RR Tyrer Scholarship from the trustees and the three scholarships were awarded to Josh Devlin (Matapu), Emma Nolly-Walsh (Ngaere) and Olivia Slater (Toko). We look forward to seeing all these students at the school in 2013.
A reminder that the year 8 students will be visiting the school later this month so the Deans and Guidance Counsellor will be on hand to answer any questions. All 2013 enrolment forms should be handed in.

Puanga Festival

On Friday 26 October the Stratford High School Kapa Haka group ventured up to join in the Puanga Festival, held in Waitara. Although the group was entered into the non-competition category, it was enjoyed by those who attended and participated. We came away with four of our speakers gaining placings. Samme-Sara Harrop Marriner and Greg Matthews gained 2nd equal while Ally Howarth and Makaiyah were placed 3rd equal in the Opaki Speech competition. Ally Howarth also was awarded a 2nd placing in the poster competition. The day was exciting and was a great experience for all who attended.
