Senior students with Mrs Maria Potter in her new office as Principal of Opunake High School. |
The SHS group who supported Mrs Potter with her transfer to Opunake High School. |
The students and staff farewelled Mrs Maria Potter on Friday 21st May at assembly in the school hall. Senior students spoke of Mrs Potter’s commitment and enthusiasm for the students at the school and wished her well at Opunake High School.
Members of the school community joined with Mrs Potter’s family and friends at a powhiri on Monday in Opunake to welcome her into her new role as principal. Our senior students had one last try at persuading her that SHS was a much better place for her but the outlook of her new office was too good to pass up. Students are looking forward to later this week when SHS plays Opunake in rugby and netball as part of the secondary school competitions.
Stratford High School Cross-country 2010
The 2010 Cross-country was run in perfect overhead conditions but with it being quite damp underfoot. Once again, the ‘Fun Run’ section proved the most popular but it was unfortunate that once again a few ‘walkers’ actually couldn’t finish in the allotted time.
It was very pleasing to see the effort made by the competitive runners and some very good finishes were seen. It was once again one of the largest field of ‘runners’ & walkers we have had. Lots of exciting costumes and house colours made it once again a very colourful affair.
Congratulations to all entrants & particularly to Individual & House winners. House participation winners were Amess house with Tyrer being the overall House winners. Most successful forms were Yf, Mw and Gj. Champion girls were Lara Williams (Jun), Summer Russell (Int) and Kelly Bishop (Sen) while champion boys were Matthew Kowalewski (Jun), Matt Simpson (Int) and Trent Swan (Sen).
