TSSSA SPORT AND SHS REPS SUMMARY
Term one for Stratford High sport has been hectic and the students are participating and achieving at very exciting levels. It is great to see many of our juniors stepping up and having a go at new events. We have had great participation in lots of events and not all are listed here but some of successes follow.
Two of our junior students represented Taranaki at the NISS Athletic Champs in Hamilton. Sarah Kowalewski was a creditable 6th in the girls Triple Jump and Quinlan Bosson Thompson was a very close second in the 300m sprint final, 2 seconds faster than his best time.
The TSSSA Rogaine Champs in the Middle of March have gained in popularity and this year SHS sent 105 students to compete at night event at Lake Mangamahoe.
Junior Boys: Robbie Howatson, Reece Saywell, Will Rohe, Herbert Van Veen and Josh Hunger were placed 3rd in their Division.
Junior Girls; Emily Short, Beth West, Courtenay McIntosh and Rylie Saywell were placed 3rd also in their class. A big thank you to Mr & Mrs Walker who every year manage this event for SHS.
Indoor Bowling
Taranaki Bowling Clubs this year have introduced a secondary school competition “Squad of 6’, to endeavour to have students from different colleges competing and practising their skills over a six week period. SHS team competed at Hawera Bowling Club, and then all went on to compete at the TSSSA champs at the Avon Club in Stratford. Our Team of Kyle Cook (Captain), William Arnold, Matt Holden, Abby Gawler, Alana Mako and Heather O’Neill represented us with credit.
Abby Gawler went on to be runner –up in the Girls Singles and also received the Player of the Day Trophy. She was chosen to represent Taranaki at the regional champs in Wanganui.
To end a very busy Term the TSSSA Dressage Champs were held at Waitara this year, in lovely sunny conditions. Congratulations to our young team of Lara Williams, Shannon Coull, Anna Crawford and Laura Vernon who came second overall for the day.
Our team captain Lara Williams showed the way for the other girls with a good win in the DC competition on her pony Little Miss Me. And the others all scored consistently in their respective groups. Thanks so much to Mechelle Coull who almost went hoarse calling so many junior tests and Erin McDonald who helped on the day also.
